The Appraisal Institute announced the recognition of four individuals as a “Volunteer of Distinction” for April.
The Appraisal Institute’s recognition program honors volunteers for their service to the Appraisal Institute, to the real estate valuation profession, and to their local communities.
The individuals honored are Mark J. Krause, MAI, of Region III (Chicago Chapter); James “Jamey” Leonard, SRA, AI-RRS, of Region V (Virginia Commonwealth Chapter); Kurt L. Reitman, MAI, SRA, of Region I (Northern California Chapter); and Stephen D. Roach, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, of Region VII (San Diego Chapter).
Krause has been vice chairman of the Chicago Chapter since 2014. He served as chapter representative from 2007-08 and again from 2010-13. Krause was chapter director from 2004-06, served on the chapter’s Bylaws Committee in 2004, and was the committee chairman from 2005-13. Krause wrote bylaws updates in 2005, 2009 and 2011. Krause also received the Chicago Chapter’s Distinguished Service Award in 2004 and the President’s Award in 2009. Since 2014, Krause has served on the Appraisal Institute’s national board of directors. He received his MAI designation in 1994.
Leonard has served as education chairman of the Virginia Commonwealth Chapter since 2013, a position he previously held from 2010-11. He was the chapter’s alternate regional representative in 2012, and sat on the chapter’s board of directors from 2011-13. He joined the Appraisal Institute in 2004, received his SRA designation in 2012, and received his AI-RRS designation in 2014.
Reitman is a director of the Appraisal Institute Relief Foundation and regional representative for the Northern California Chapter. He served on the chapter Government Relations Chair in 2014, and represented Region I on the national Government Relations Committee from 2006-11. Reitman is a former AI instructor and has trained appraisers in his private practice. He joined a predecessor organization of the Appraisal Institute in 1966, received his MAI designation in 1974, and received his SRA designation in 2005.
Roach is a trustee for the Appraisal Institute Education Trust and is a member of the Appraisal Institute’s Strategic Planning Committee. He was chairman of the national Strategic Planning Committee from 2010-13 and vice chairman in 2014. From 2010-13, he was chair of AI’s International Relations Committee. Roach is the author of numerous valuation books and articles, as well as a contributor to AI seminars. He received his MAI designation in 1986, his SRA designation in 2011, and his AI-GRS in March.
Appraisal Institute Designated members, Candidates for Designation, Practicing Affiliates and Affiliates may nominate Volunteers of Distinction by submitting the nomination form to their chapter’s executive director or president. Each region’s honorees are then chosen by their respective regional executive director, in conjunction with the region’s chairman and vice chairman.
